Researchers Are Planning a Comprehensive Dictionary of the Classic Mayan Language
All known texts in the Maya hieroglyphic script are to be recorded
Göttingen. The writing and language of the Classic Maya are the subject of a new long-term research project of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts (AWK-NRW). An extensive research team is to spend the next 15 years recording all known texts in the Maya hieroglyphic script from the period between 500 B.C. and A.D. 1500 and, on the basis of this work, compile a comprehensive dictionary of the Classic Mayan language. The undertaking is being financed with approximately 5.4 million euros from the AWK-NRW.
